Early morning power outage leaves hundreds in downtown Sacramento in the dark


An early morning SMUD power outage has left hundreds in the downtown Sacramento area in the dark on Thursday. The outage was caused by a transformer failure in the downtown network vault, SMUD said.About 650 people were impacted by the outage. Power is expected to be restored between 9 and 11 a.m., the utility said. Buildings impacted by the outage include the area east and north of the Capitol and south of F Street between 13th and 23rd streets, SMUD said.“SMUD is working proactively with customers impacted by the outage, and Commercial customers are being contacted and arrangements made on a case-by-case basis to provide additional support as needed,” the utility said in a statement.
